While Covered California is running for political cover and covering themselves with praise for their ability to reduce or at least temper costs (estimates are 4% or so for the coming year), in other parts of the country there is danger lurking, and being blamed on President Obama. In Texas the largest health insurer is planning to raise its rates an average of 60%, North Carolina about 19%, and 44% in Vermont. Oregon has weighed in, closer to home, with increases going 10 to 29%. The last time such large increases were announced (we are thinking of Anthem in California with a proposed 39% increase in 2010) the result was..well, you know…what we have now – The Affordable Care Act.
Maybe not here…never in my backyard…but rates seem to be increasing elsewhere
